Ingredients

FOR THE DUMPLINGS:

  • 5 cups All-purpose flour
  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 cup Water
  • 150 g Butter

FOR THE TOPPING:

  • 1 lb Mushrooms
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 cup Bacon
  • 3 tbsp Butter
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Black pepper

teps to make Ukrainian Dumplings aka Galushki:

  1. MAKE DOUGH ; Place 5 cups of flour in a large mixing bowl. Create a well in the center of the flour. Whisk 4 eggs with 1 cup of lukewarm water and 150 grams of melted butter. Bring the dough together with a fork and finish mixing by hand.
  2. CHOP INTO DUMPLINGS ; Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a log shape. Chop each log into smaller dumplings.
  3. COOK THE DUMPLINGS: Bring a large saucepan of salted water to a boil. Add the dumplings to the saucepan and cook them until they float to the top of the water.
  4. SAUTÉ MUSHROOMS: Place 1 pound of diced mushrooms in an oiled skillet and sauté them for about 5 minutes.
  5. ADD ONIONS :Add a diced onion and continue cooking until soft. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  6. ADD BACON AND BUTTER: Stir 1 cup of bacon pieces and 3 tablespoons of butter to the mushrooms in the skillet. Continue to cook for 5 more minutes.
  7. COOK THE DUMPLINGS: Place the dumplings in a separate skillet and add the sautéed mixture. Cook until golden brown.
  8. SERVE: Serve the galushki immediately!
