FRIED CABBAGE AND BACON WITH ONION

Ingredients:

  • 1 chopped cabbage
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 2 tsp minced garlic
  • 5 slices chopped bacon
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions:

  1. Cut the cabbage into quarters and remove any wilted or discolored outer leaves. Remove the core from the cabbage quarters and cut into large 1-inch pieces.
  2. In a 4-quart pan, cook the bacon and onion over medium heat until the bacon is crisp and the onion is soft.
  3. Remove the bacon and onion from the pan and place them on paper towels to drain. Leave about 1/2 cup of bacon drippings in the pan.
  4. Add the cabbage to the pan with the bacon drippings and cook without stirring until it begins to brown, about 3 minutes.
  5. Add the minced garlic, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Continue to cook, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender, about 20 minutes.
  6. Crumble the cooked bacon back into the cabbage and serve hot.
